These tests determine the presents of harmful levels of bacteria and other contaminants in a private water supply system.

Total coliform:

Determines the level of harmful bacteria in the water supply. Bacteria can cause many kinds illness including hepatitis, cholera and others.

This contamination could be caused by surface water seepage or a septic system too close to the well source.

Nitrite/Nitrate:

Determines the level of fertilizers in the water supply. Fertilizer can enter the water supply via ground water contamination. Fertilizer, liquid or solid manure and even sewage from a septic system can contribute to nitrate contamination.

Lead:

Determines the level of lead in the water supply. Lead can enter water supply from the water supply pipes or soldered fittings, lead can also be found in the ground water.

Lead can cause many health problems including learning disabilities and behavior problems in children. Lead can also be toxic to adults.

Some government backed loans require lead testing even if the house has a private water supply system.

All water testing is performed by Certified Environmental Services, Inc. a New York State certified laboratory.

If the water source is contaminated by any of the above, steps can be taken to clean up the water supply. Filtration, ultraviolet light and better ground water control around the well can significantly reduce the level of water contamination.

The water tests listed above do not determine the level dissolved solids, water hardness, sediment in the water, or well yield. These tests can be ordered separately if desired.
